Meg and Alex Bruzan have a great story. That talk about the reasons behind moving into the poorest zip code in Wisconsin 14 years ago. They talk about their community and some of the realities behind generational wealth, high school graduation, and housing in inner-city Milwaukee. What I love most about this interview is the passion that they have for their neighbors. The Bruzan’s life is not passively living out of their comfort zone but an active love of their neighborhood. It also speaks to the notion of calling. Normally we think of calling as a job that we go to, but this calling is about where they live and who they interact with. I think this episode will challenge your notion of vocation and calling. It will also challenge your notion of social justice and the way the African-American community has faced challenges.
I hope that you walk away from this episode with a new perspective about empathy. They do a great job of showing how to break down our notions of who is valuable in our society.
