It’s a really great question. We have a lot of input from a lot of sources that want to tell us what success is.

We hear money, fame, recognition. Those measures of success are fleeting in my mind and easily show themselves to be false idols, though that doesn’t make them less attractive.

I think as Christians it is easy to believe that if we are faithful to God we will be successful. Yes, in being comfortable (which is a lie). But also a success at being a Christian. That we might find fulfillment in our work all the time (also not true).

For me it is easy to get discouraged. We measure success on the little victories that don’t necessarily come about. I tend to put my head down, work harder and numb the pain of not feeling successful.

I want to encourage you that God is working in ways you have no idea. He has good works prepared in advance for you. Like legit.

You may not see it now but God is working. So work in the knowledge that success is not on you. Your success is measured by a good Father that loves you because you are you.

My friend Andrew is someone who has found success as a lawyer giving permanence to children in foster care. It is not the most lucrative way to be a lawyer, but it is something that God has burdened him for. Listen to his view of success.
