[no 16] We are asking this question very tongue in cheek. It is obviously a strange question, but it is one that is constantly playing itself out in marriage. To pretend that we are not living in a patriarchal society gets us into a lot of trouble. We have taken these ideas into marriage and called them biblical. JJ as a therapist and our role in ministry has put us into a a counseling position in a lot of marriage relationships. One of the most damaging things we have seen is an unhealthy power dynamic. When a marriage is all about who is in charge it can lead to some really tough relationships.

The jumping off point of this conversation is our non traditional gender roles in marriage. I (Currey) am the main caregiver for the children while JJ works away from the home. We have found a lot of joy in setting up our lives in this way and we think there are some really great aspects to it. We talk through why we choose to love that way and through how our culture has set up traditional marriage as an idol. There are a lot of places where these ideas give us a false set of lenses for viewing the world. We try to break down some of that and reorient peoples lives to the kingdom of God.
